Ulster Rugby is set to launch their United Rugby Championship (URC) campaign with a home fixture against Edinburgh this Friday. The team is keen to leverage their home advantage at the Affidea Stadium, aiming to improve on last season’s performance.
Home Ground Strategy
Last season, Ulster secured five victories out of nine home matches in the URC. They also achieved a perfect record in the European Challenge Cup at home, only to fall short in the final against Montpellier. These mixed results highlight the importance of turning their home ground into a stronghold.
Ulster’s out-half, Jack Murphy, emphasised the need to make Ravenhill a challenging venue for visiting teams. He recalled the days when Ulster was renowned for its formidable home presence and expressed a desire to return to that status.
Season Goals
Ulster narrowly missed out on the URC play-offs last season, finishing just two points shy of qualification. This year, they are determined to maximise their home points to secure a better league position and a spot in the Investec Champions Cup.
Murphy noted the competitive nature of the URC, acknowledging that every match presents a tough challenge. With new additions to their coaching staff, Edinburgh is expected to provide a stern test, despite their 12th place finish last season.
Looking Ahead
As Ulster prepares for the upcoming match, their focus remains on executing their game plan and maintaining high intensity. The team aims to start the season strongly and build momentum from their home fixtures.
The match against Edinburgh kicks off at 19:45 BST, and Ulster supporters will be hoping for a positive start to the campaign.
