In a match that will be remembered for its electrifying second-half, Bohemians overcame a first-half deficit to defeat Derry City 5-3 at Dalymount Park. The home side’s remarkable turnaround was marked by five goals after the break, a feat not achieved since their famous 6-4 victory over Shamrock Rovers 25 years ago.

First-Half Struggles

Bohemians entered the halftime interval trailing 1-0, courtesy of Michael Duffy’s 34th-minute strike for Derry City. The visitors capitalised on a swift counter-attack, with Duffy finding the net after a well-placed pass from Barry Cotter.

Despite a lacklustre first-half performance, Bohemians nearly equalised when Senan Mullen’s volley struck the crossbar, leaving fans hopeful for a second-half revival.

Second-Half Transformation

The home side emerged from the dressing room with renewed vigour, quickly turning the game on its head. Pat Hickey levelled the score in the 47th minute with a powerful header from a Jordan Flores corner. Just three minutes later, Connor Parsons put Bohemians ahead, capitalising on a precise pass from Dawson Devoy.

Douglas James-Taylor extended the lead in the 53rd minute, finishing neatly after another Flores corner. Derry City’s woes were compounded when James Clarke received a red card for a challenge on Parsons, reducing the visitors to ten men.

Late Drama

Although Tyler Smith pulled one back for Derry City in the 62nd minute, Bohemians maintained their dominance. Ross Tierney restored the two-goal cushion with a composed finish in the 79th minute before sealing the victory with a stunning long-range effort nine minutes later.

Duffy added a late consolation for Derry City from the penalty spot in the 95th minute, but it was too little, too late.

Bohemians’ emphatic performance leaves them with just four more games at Dalymount Park before the historic stadium undergoes redevelopment. Their display against Derry City will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the standout moments in its storied history.
