Ireland Makes Key Changes for Japan Clash

Munster Rugby match at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh

As Ireland prepares to face Japan in the WXV Global Series, Head Coach Scott Bemand has made significant adjustments to the team following last week’s narrow defeat to the USA. The match, which saw Ireland lose 36-40 despite a strong start, has prompted Bemand to rethink his strategy.

Team Changes

Among the changes, Aoife Wafer, a top-rated number eight, is unavailable due to a minor injury sustained during training. This has led to Jemima Adams Verling stepping into the number eight position, with Brittany Hogan joining as blindside flanker.

The backline sees the inclusion of Connacht trio Béibhinn Parsons, Anna McGann, and Aoibheann Reilly, who will play as right-wing, second-centre, and scrum-half respectively. In the front row, Eilís Cahill earns her first start for Ireland, while Neve Jones moves up from the bench to hooker.

Adding to the excitement, uncapped hooker Beth Buttimer is set to make her Test debut off the bench. The 21-year-old has been in impressive form for Munster during the Women’s Interprovincial Championship.

Fans can catch the action live on TG4 Player and YouTube. Tickets are still available for purchase through Connacht Rugby’s official website.

With these strategic changes, Ireland aims to bounce back and secure a victory against Japan, building on the lessons learned from their recent encounter with the USA.
