Rathmore Triumphs in Kerry Final Drama

Gaelic football match between UCD and Trinity College

The weekend’s GAA club championships were marked by significant victories and dramatic encounters. In Kerry, Rathmore emerged victorious over Dr Crokes in a tense final at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney. This win marks Rathmore’s first county title in 15 years, achieved with a 2-10 to 0-12 scoreline.

The match was not without controversy. An early red card for Dr Crokes’ Michael Burns, following an altercation with a Rathmore physio, set the tone. Despite Tony Brosnan’s eight-point contribution, a missed penalty opportunity hindered Dr Crokes’ efforts to secure a third consecutive title.

Rathmore’s goals came from Fionn Murphy and substitute John Moynihan, under the guidance of manager Aidan O’Mahony, a celebrated former Kerry player. The victory was a significant achievement for the club, though O’Mahony’s post-match celebrations were tempered by family commitments.

Clann Eireann’s Quarter-Final Success

In Armagh, Clann Eireann ended Madden’s hopes of retaining their title with a 1-13 to 0-11 victory. Cohen Henderson’s goal and Conor Turbitt’s four points were pivotal in securing a semi-final spot against Crossmaglen Rangers, who defeated Culloville with Oisin O’Neill scoring 2-10.

Farragher Shines Despite Castlegar’s Defeat

In the Galway Senior Hurling Championship, 43-year-old Ger Farragher delivered a remarkable performance for Castlegar, scoring 1-7 in their loss to Loughrea. Despite Farragher’s efforts, Loughrea advanced with a four-point win, continuing their pursuit of a third consecutive title.
