Galway jockey Rossa Ryan celebrated a triumphant return to the winners’ enclosure at York, securing victory in the Sky Bet Mile Handicap aboard Blue Courvoisier. This win marked a significant comeback after a narrow defeat in the Yorkshire Oaks just a day prior.

Victory After Disappointment

Ryan, who had experienced the frustration of finishing second in the prestigious Yorkshire Oaks with Sparan Nua, was determined to make amends. Despite the disappointment of missing out by a short head to the favourite Kalpana, Ryan’s resilience shone through as he guided Blue Courvoisier to success.

In Friday’s opening race, Ryan took charge from the start, pushing Blue Courvoisier to the front. The horse, priced at 13-2, maintained a strong lead throughout the mile-long contest, ultimately holding off a late challenge from Eklleem to win by a length and a half.

Trainer’s Praise

Trainer Clive Cox expressed his admiration for both horse and jockey, highlighting Blue Courvoisier’s courage and Ryan’s execution of the race plan. Cox noted the horse’s impressive cruising speed and determination, qualities that were evident as Blue Courvoisier responded to pressure in the home straight.

Blue Courvoisier’s performance at York follows a successful season, including a win in the Silver Bowl at Carlisle and a commendable third-place finish at Glorious Goodwood. The decision to race over a mile proved advantageous, aligning with the horse’s strengths.

Ryan’s victory was celebrated by his girlfriend, Ali Keating, who shared her support on social media. The win at York not only showcased Ryan’s skill but also highlighted the promising potential of Blue Courvoisier under Cox’s guidance.
