Shane Lowry has been basking in the glory of his recent Irish Open victory, where he delivered an outstanding performance to secure an 11-stroke win. The Offaly golfer achieved a remarkable 23-under-par at Doonbeg, marking his first individual title in four years.
Despite the celebrations, Lowry’s focus has quickly shifted to the upcoming BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. The 39-year-old admitted that the post-tournament festivities were more exhausting than the competition itself, but he remains eager to maintain his momentum in London.
Triumphant Return
Lowry’s triumph at the Irish Open was witnessed by a lively crowd, including the event’s host, Donald Trump. Following his victory, Lowry made a memorable stop at a local pub in West Clare before heading to Adare Manor in Limerick for practice sessions. These sessions are part of his preparation for next year’s Ryder Cup, which will be held at the same venue.
Reflecting on his busy schedule, Lowry noted the importance of spending time with family and friends in Offaly, which provided a welcome respite from the pressures of the tour.
Focus on Wentworth
As Lowry prepares for the BMW PGA Championship, he expressed his fondness for the Wentworth course, a venue where he has consistently performed well. His previous success there, including a win in 2022, adds to his confidence as he aims to continue his strong form.
Lowry regards the tournament as one of his favourites, appreciating the hospitality and the significance it holds on the tour. With high hopes for another successful outing, he is determined to deliver a strong performance in Surrey.
